The Coastal Cruise Kicks off the Season for Earth Sports on the last Sunday in January.
The route consists of a gentle roll out to the Jurassic coast before the major climb of the the day over Gunnery ranges at Lulworth which offers the opportunity to stretch ones legs.
The aim of the ride is act as an early season marker helping to keep your training focused as you prepare for the season ahead. Please note there is a 3 km section of gravel cycle path just after Studland, it is perfectly ridable on a road bike…..you have been advised!
The Coastal Cruise is a ‘Reliability Ride’ whereby participants demonstrate that they are a ‘reliable rider’, by completing a ride within a specified time. The route is a 98 mile (158 km) circular route starting and finishing in Sherborne. Groups of cyclists work together to ensure that they get around the course safely and in time. Start from 08:00 hrs, finish by 16:00 hrs
All riders are required to be self-sufficient. They need to fix their own bikes and take any food or personal medication with them on the ride. For those that wish to stop for a coffee stop(s) on route we recommend the following:
Convenience Stores
1. @52 km, Dovecote Cafe Morton (09:00 - 16:00)
2. @85 km, National Trust Knoll Beach Cafe, Studland (07:00 - 22:00)
3. @129 km, Tea Clipper Tea Rooms, Milton Abbas (10:00 - 16:00)
This event takes place on the open roads and rules of the Highway Code must be obeyed at all times. While they do not have the full event support of Sportives they are just as enjoyable, if not more so as they tend to me more sociable with riders working together to get around.
