Starting at 3:00 pm (subject to your flight arriving in time) you will cycle 42 km from the Fairmont hotel to Nice Old Port were we will stop at the Café du Cycliste for refreshments before heading back to to the Fairmont by a circular route.

17/09/2022 - Day 2

After Breakfast at 6:30 riders will meet at 7:30 for a rider briefing with ride leaders before heading off at 08:00. The parcour takes in the iconic climbs of the Col de La Madone and Col Saint Roche.

18/09/2022 - Day 3

For those with time before their flight we will depart at 7:30 am and take on , riders will tackle some of the larger climbs in the area as they get into the heart of the Umbrian countryside.

It’s no secret that the Alpes Maritime is an incredible place ride a bike, it’s why so many pro live and train there - its landscape, ancient hill towns, and blue skies tick lots of boxes when it comes to riding a bike. Countless visitors pass through each year, but few experience the magic of exploring it on two wheels.

Saturdays ride with Chris is 114km long with 3100m of climbing so is a challenging day. It will be ridden at a steady pace and Chris will move between groups to give all riders a chance to spend some time with him.

It isn’t a race and we don’t expect all riders to be mountain goats so for anyone who may be concerned about their fitness we will help arrange carbon e-road bikes which will support on the steepest climbs and ensure all levels of riders have a fabulous day and the groups remain together.

For the mountain goats and keen cyclists there will be an opportunity to go for a fast time up the Col de la Madone before regrouping at the top.

If you have any questions about the ride itself, please do not hesitate to contact Earth Sports .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Ride with Froomey 2022 will help fund the construction of the new Safari Simbaz educational centre in Mweiga Kenya
With 43% of the population under the age of 15 Kenyan youth face huge challenges and barriers on a daily basis which prevent them from reaching their potential. At the Simbaz, we believe that these children should have the opportunity to achieve their dreams and ambitions despite their background.

Small charities are often overlooked and underfunded – 85% of all charitable income goes to fewer than 5% of charities. However, they often play a crucial role in the community and are highly impactful and effective. We want to be there for them now more than ever.

Biking distances, terrain and weather conditions vary, but you can find details on the information page and you can find out more by chatting with Earth Sports at one of the pre event rides that start and finish at Richmond Park London.

Ride with Froomey for the Safari Simbaz is a challenge ride so by its nature it will include a relatively long distance, big ascents and fast roads, so do your research and be honest about how fit you feel and how much you enjoy being on a bike. It’s better to overestimate the demands of a cycling trip than underestimate.  This trip is not designed for beginners and a decent level of experience is required.

That being said the Team at Earth Sports will be hosting training events in the build up along with weekly Zwift rides and we will also be offering each rider access to the Pillar training app.

For any riders wanting to join our e-bike group please select the e-bike option when entering. For ease you can hire an e-bike that will be delivered to the hotel

Each group will have a ride leader who will encourage and help you finish your challenge. There is a support vehicles that will be supporting the event.

Sweep Minibus - The sweep vehicle will follow the very end of the event and pick up any riders who are struggling.  These carry food and water, a first aid kit and bike maintenance equipment.

It is the riders responsibility to ensure they are fit enough to complete the route.

The sweep vehicle will follow the last riders so could take several hours to get to you so please be patient.

Riders will be spilt into groups that match their ability as closely as possible.  There will be 10 - 12 riders per group.  Each group will have a ride leader who will maintain a steady pace that the group is able to cope with.  If one rider is significantly slowing the group then them may be happier to move groups to a steadier one at a planned stop or for the next days ride.

The slower groups will aim to average 20 - 22kmph for the days ride with faster groups getting closer to 28 - 30kmph but this will vary greatly depending on the terrain. Faster groups may decide to push the pace faster but this will depend on the strength of the group.

Depending on your travel arrangements you may not arrive in time to ride on Friday the 16th and some may be departing early on Sunday 18th so may not be able to take part in the ride with Kinjah. Just ensure you are read to ride with Froomey at 8.00 am on Saturday 17th September.

Each group on the road will have a ride leader, who will brief you on each section. We also provide GPX/FIT files (via Strava) for your cycling computer which will provide turn by turn directions on compatible devices. We have undertaken a risk assessment of the route to mitigate potential black spots, traffic levels and road conditions but riders need to remain flexible to any last minute changes due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Ride with Froomey route is 114 km with over 3,000 meters of ascent so you need to ensure that your bike is in good working condition before you arrive and we strongly recommend you have a full service before the ride.  This may include putting on a new set of tyres and fresh brake pads.  It is the riders responsibility to arrive with a serviceable and suitable bike.  If you arrive without a suitable bike in good serviceable condition then you may fail to finish the event.

If you have a puncture you will be expected to sort tis out within your group on the road so ensure you are carrying spares.  You ride leader will be able to help but all cyclists should be confident changing an inner tube. The bike mechanics with the event are able to make running repairs but due to the huge variety of bikes and parts may not carry specific spares for your bike.  If you identify specific issues with your bike please notify the mechanic before the ride starts or at one of the stops en route.

Although French roads are generally pretty good there will be rougher sections and a well serviced bike will cope a lot better.  We strongly recommend that you use a road bike with two bottle cages fitted.

If you have any specific questions please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

The Charity

The Safari Simbaz Charity Trust is committed to helping break the cycle of poverty for children and young people through the power of the bicycle. Day in, day out, there are millions of children in Kenya who face challenges and barriers to achieving their goals and ambitions.

From hunger, stress, loneliness, deprivation and substance abuse, they face situations in their life which do not allow them to thrive. We want to give them access to the opportunities and support they need to go on and achieve their ambitions and reach their potential.

Innovative grassroots charities like the Simbaz are on the frontline, providing young people with crucial educational opportunities and services in the most disadvantaged communities. However, these charities are often overlooked and underfunded – over 85% of all charitable income goes to fewer than 5% of charities – and don’t have access to the resources necessary to grow significantly.

With your support, we want to raise £500,000 to fund a new Safari Simbaz Centre in Kenya and help them scale up to reach more children and young people. Through financial support, access to a wide network of people passionate about cycling and further organisational assistance, we want to see them thrive as much as the people they are helping.

Thank you for helping us achieve this.

Pay the event fee (£1,999) upon registration and then donate a minimum of £1,500 to the Safari Simbaz via their Enthuse page. We would encourage you to raise/donate as much as possible.

Pay the event fee (£1,999) and commit to raising £1,500 in the run up to the event. At least 60% of the funds must be received 30 days before the ride with the remaining 40% within 28 days of completing the challenge.

Gift Aid allows the Safari Simbaz charity to claim 25p from HRMC for every £1 that you raise in eligible donations (donors must be UK taxpayers). This means that if you raise £5,000 in sponsorship, we can claim £1,250. We strongly encourage our riders to promote Gift Aid when fundraising for the challenge.
